Old Rag

Josh, my 11 year old son, edited this video of us going up Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia in May 2016.

Old Rag is one of my favorite destinations close to home.  About an hour and a half from the Washington, DC area, Old Rag offers a unique hiking experience since the second half on the hike is on exposed cliffs with Class 3 (requiring hands) rock.  Although a very safe hike, it is not for younger children nor for those with an extreme fear of heights.  Old Rag has been a training ground for our other adventures and an adventure in itself.  We have taken our family and friends to the top.  I have gone up for speed and just to enjoy the nature.  I've seen everything from snakes, deer, lizards, eagles, and even bear on the mountain.  It is truly beautiful.
