Seneca Rocks

West Virginia

Seneca Rocks is the only peak inaccessible accept by technical rock climbing techniques on the East Coast of the United States.  The peak rises nearly 900 feet above the valley floor.  In October 2013, I spent three days with Will Gordon who was working for Seneca Rocks Climbing School.  On the first day we went to the summit (route described below).  On the second and third day, Will taught me the basics of trad (traditional) climbing.  Basically how to place removable anchors as you move up the mountain.  He also spent some time going over all types of mountaineering anchors with me and finally we did some other routes.  The video speaks best to the experience.

Route Description

Worrel's Thicket (5.0, 2 pitches), Broadway Traverse (4th Class), Broadway to Gunsight (5.0, 1 pitch), Gunsight to South Peak (5.3, 3 Pitches). 1 Rappel via the "Traffic Jam" Chimney.
